About the BAHFBig Apple Honor Flight (BAHF) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to fly veterans from NYC to DC to honor them for all their sacrifices. We transport these heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit their memorials at no cost to them.
We are a local chapter of the National Honor Flight Network (which consists of over 130 independent nonprofit “hubs” across America). Big Apple Honor Flight had our Inaugural Flight out of JFK International Airport on April 29, 2017 . BAHF serves all five boroughs of NYC flying veterans from the following counties: Kings, Queens, New York, Richmond, & Bronx. |
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When is your next flight?
Big Apple Honor Flight: Mission #4 is set to take place on May 11th, 2024
I know a company or business that would like to help. Who should they contact?
They can contact Mark Giordano at [email protected]
When will I know if I was accepted onto the flight?
You will be contacted by a member of our flight committee at least two months in advance to confirm that you have been accepted and to coordinate transportation on flight day.
How much does it cost?
There is NO COST to any veterans being honored on the flight. Guardians pay their own way through their guardian donation of $500. This can be paid personally or they can solicit a local business or organization to sponsor their trip. Veterans from other wars may apply to be a guardian while our flights continue to honor WWII, Korean War, Cold War, and Vietnam War veterans (if they are physically able), however, they will still be expected to pay their guardian fee.
What if the veteran is on oxygen veteran or needs a wheelchair?
WHEELCHAIRS – About 80% of our veterans need wheelchairs at some point during Flight Day. Our deluxe motor coaches are ordered with this in mind. Our coaches are equipped with wheelchair lifts. If there is a possibility that a veteran may need a wheelchair during one of our trips, we ask that the veteran bring their own or contact us we will make arrangements to have one available.
OXYGEN – If a veteran requires oxygen, the BAHF Safety Team will discuss the requirements and makes accommodations to ensure that they can still take part on our flight to Washington. Please contact us at [email protected] and we will put you in touch with our Safety Coordinator.
